A lot smaller than anticipated, but the 2009 Spring Gathering was successful nonetheless. How does one gauge? When 3 people stay over for a 10-14 day visit from a weekend event the effort seems justified! The weather was cooperative with the warmest day of the year on May 2nd, 22C. Great food, camaderie, hikes, campfire, Circle Dance, lots of Q & A, and no bugs rounded out the weekend. Thanks to Dom & Diane, Jeff, Kerry, & Micah for the energy you lent to the event! For those that couldn’t make it we hope to see you throughout the Summer! The next opportunity for a group meeting will be around the Robson Valley Music Festival, Aug. 21-23rd.
Gardening is the highlight of any Summer. May has started out a bit cooler than expected, so we have been helped with our many changes in the gardening plan. The big news is we have doubled (2X) the size of the garden, after removing via shovel the old sod. Lots of hard work by prospective members & woofers! The primary reason for that is the beginning of our fruit section. We now have saskatoons, blue berries, raspberries, and strawberries planted. All are plants 1-4 years old so we expect substantial production this year! Haskaps will arrive in June, so we have the beginning of our orchard/berry patch. There are plans to add apples & cherries this year or next and bees for pollination & honey in 2010, if all goes well.
Spring is such a busy time! Next on the schedule is the shearing of the alpacas. If you are interested & have the time plan to come out this month, May. Exact dates will be announced.
We expect to be selling alpaca socks, alpaca scarves, and some produce this year, (including 10 varieties of potatoes) at the Prince George Farmers Market. Hope to see you there!
