Russ Co-creation at the Ecovillage and Harvest Celebration 2009

An occasional jarring is always good for improving the blood flow, as the heart pumps a bit faster and the brain starts to move a bit faster...the thought is forced upon us from time to time, "What are we doing here at the ecovillage, and what makes us different?" If you think outside the box and are a pioneer spirit now is the time to jump into Kakwa. If you are not, need lots of structure, and always know how things will turn out before you begin then Kakwa is definitely not for you at this be… Continue

Russ Middle of the Summer

Life here is like that in most homes. There are the crazy frenetic times of May/June and then the cycle moves to the other extreme. The busy times are full of people and projects. Now, the quiet times are full of serene moments. The garden is planted and doing well. With some regular weeding and watering it looks good. The squash crop last year that failed to fulfill its promise is likely to do extraordinarily well this year because of the extra heat units we are receiving. After a day of misce… Continue

Ben Tremblay Big picture

I was "on the bus" at 14 ... 1968. Can't recall things ever being that good since. So I carried those values forward ... or tried to, at least. It sure ain't about being slack and sloppy ... nothing about keeping a bus on the road is slack and sloppy. And nothing about relationships, either. But basically I've watched our society in a dangerous tail-spin. World politics radicalized me. I was in the military when we (Canadians) helped other developed countries over-throw the democratically elec… Continue

Russ Summary of the Spring Gathering 2009 and the latest…

A lot smaller than anticipated, but the 2009 Spring Gathering was successful nonetheless. How does one gauge? When 3 people stay over for a 10-14 day visit from a weekend event the effort seems justified! The weather was cooperative with the warmest day of the year on May 2nd, 22C. Great food, camaderie, hikes, campfire, Circle Dance, lots of Q & A, and no bugs rounded out the weekend. Thanks to Dom & Diane, Jeff, Kerry, & Micah for the energy you lent to the event! For those that co… Continue

Russ Feels like Spring Newsletter!

Okay, okay I realize we Northerners can get a little excited this time of year…it was a spectacular sunny day today and +10C/50F! The soon to come green pasture won’t be ready for the alpacas until ~ April 15th so we’ve got some cool weather still ahead. However, Spring is always welcomed when it arrives. Think t-shirts and flowers! Recent Events: Seedy Saturday in Prince George was a lot of fun this year! Very busy with people sharing seeds, selling seeds, booths on: local food,… Continue

Russ January 2009 Newsletter

Hello everyone! Some days just feel good! Yes, it’s still Winter (+1C the other night. Warmest of 2009 so far!) and lots of snow on the ground. Looking back over our 2.5 years of Alpaca shepherding, their care and shearing I have to say this sort of feedback (received with a repeat purchase from a satisfied customer) makes me feel like we are on the right track: “…these are bar none the best socks I have ever owned including ones I knit myself!...” My order is for 8 more pair. B. Griffi… Continue

Russ “Almost” Summer Newsletter 2008

Hello everyone! It’s been a late Spring and many aspects of the Farm seem behind schedule…but “all is very, very well.” The garden is being planted now. It’s about the same time as last year, and we had a wonderful garden as a result. Expect it to be ~ the same size but much denser. The best part is our Troy-Bilt rototiller. It has made some of the work much easier. Wish us a bountiful harvest! We have a huge increase in Animal friends this year. A new puppy has joined us. Check her out in the… Continue

Russ Spring Newsletter 2008

Whew! It’s finally here. Spring…ahhhhhhhh! On April 12 with a warm wind blowing for 24 hrs + the snow almost disappeared, the river was flowing strongly, the armies of robins showed up along with the ducks on the river, and the alpacas are finally out of the barn until Fall. The warmest day of 2008, so far: 17C. You can learn a lot from old hands at gardening and farming. One pearl of wisdom I have tucked away is the best way to determine when it’s time to plant the garden. You drop your trouse… Continue

Ricky Fico Community

A community is comprised of many components of diversity that form together a common bond of cohesion. Deviation from this cohesion, by an act of immorality or lawlessness is an act of conspiracy against the community. For a community to survive and prosper, there must be an organized effort to promote unity through its common laws and observances of these laws. A concerted effort to promote harmony in the community by disallowing unremitting or habitual breaches is inContinue

Russ Fall Newsletter 2007

The Summer of 2007 hasn’t really ended if on-going activity is a gauge.

Summer Highlights
A solar powered electric garden fence was installed this year. As a result the people are eating from the garden this year versus the alpacas & llamas. It was and is a bountiful garden with; potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, parsnips, dill, red leaf lettuce, cabbage, zucchini, winter squash, thyme, greek oregano, tatsoi, broccoli, sunflowers, pe

Russ To my many friends who are watching the videos...

Hey everyone!

The world of technology is amazing! We are really linked together as the group mind in this physical space. And it is by choice! So to the 33 or so of you who have watched the video about Kakwa. Thanks!

This space is about sharing ideas and being supportive. It is also about physical commitment/manifestation. If you are not in community and want to be consider joining this virtual one...and perhaps visiting Kakwa in the future.
